Faletulutulu'itao or 'House Guarded with Spears' features the unique title bestowing ceremony of the village of Faletagaloa, Safune, which takes place every 20 years or so. It starts with a procession by a guard of honour of all village matai wielding long spears to the laoa (house) where the title bestowal takes place. The laoa is surrounded by the guard of honour during the ceremony of about 3 hours, which starts with proclamations by the tu'ua (senior orator), regarding the significance of the ceremony. The final stages of the ceremony include the traditional 'ava, ali'itaeao and the fa'asafune.
