Tsunami introduces the idea of Extreme Natural Events and then moves to focus on tsunamis. After looking at what causes a tsunami, it examines the 2009 Samoan event. The book also covers how New Zealand is affected by not only the Samoan event, but the threat of tsunamis in general. Tsunami has been designed to be used in both Social Studies and Geography classes. It is packed with new and engaging resources and imagery. The causes and effects, people's reaction in response to a community challenge, and how people's past actions impact on the lives of those living in the present. By investigating the 2009 tsunami in Samoa, students will be able to demonstrate a geographic understanding of an extreme natural event and the human response to it.
