Description of this Book

Frommer's Fiji completely details the highlights of this 300-plus island nation, covering the best beaches, outdoor activities, all-inclusive resorts, and cultural experiences. Our author has written about the South Pacific for years, so he's able to provide valuable insight and advice, steering you away from the touristy and the inauthentic and showing you the real heart of Fiji. He'll guide you from the 'mainland' island of Viti Levu and the neighboring resorts on Denarau Island and the Mamanuca Islands to the pristine northern Fiji islands of Vanua Levu and Taveuni. And he'll lay out the best spots for sailing, snorkeling, diving, fishing, hiking, and rafting, as well as the best ways to explore the region's complex cultural and political history, its flora, fauna, and topography. You'll travel Fiji like a pro with our candid advice and handy Active Vacation Planner. Also included in this title are a detailed history of the nation and culture, accurate regional and town maps, an online directory that makes trip-planning a snap, up-to-date advice on finding the best package deals, and suggested itineraries on how to explore this island nation in 1 week and 2 weeks, with additional itineraries for families, outdoors enthusiasts, and honeymooners.

Author's Bio

Bill Goodwin is one of the world's experts on travel to Fiji and the South Pacific. Before falling in love with the islands, he traveled widely as a decorated officer in the U.S. Navy and was an award-winning newspaper reporter for the Atlanta Journal, which sent him to Washington, D.C., as a political correspondent. He then served as legal counsel and speechwriter for two influential U.S. senators-Sam Nunn of Georgia and the late Sam Ervin of North Carolina. In 1977, he and a friend sailed a 41-foot yacht from Annapolis, Maryland, to Tahiti. He left the boat in Papeete and, with girlfriend and backpack, spent more than a year exploring French Polynesia, American Samoa, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, and Australia. After another stint with Senator Nunn and a year in Hawaii, he researched and wrote the first edition of Frommer's South Pacific in 1986-87. He also is the author of Frommer's Tahiti & French Polynesia and, at home, Frommer's Virginia. Visit him at www.billgoodwin.com.
