Description of this Book

I have done research done over 20 years on five generations of the Ackland family. Included are numerous descendants and their families, some of which have chapters of their own, viz. BEll ( of Aylesbury), Bridger ( of Liss in Hampshire, Auckland, Opotiki and Dunedin), Dick ( of Scotland, Australia and New Zealand) and Walcot (of Bristol, Sydney, Nelson and Fiji). The tale of my Ackland branch takes us from Bristol in England to New Zealand where they remained for 20 years or more. they briefly spent time in Australia and some drifted off to the USA and Canada. Our branch finally settled in Fiji in 1896 and remained there for the next 80 years. The Fiji story reveals what it was like to live in those colonial days. They speak about the war years, the social lives, the attitudes, experience, the lifelong friends that were made, childhood, school days and generally what it was like to grow up in the islands. It has a decidedly Fiji flavour in the narrative and shows the quirky sense of humour that Fiji people acquire and the love each and everyone of us have for our home country.
