Description of this Book
Johnny Checkett was one of New Zealand's six fighter 'aces' of World War II. He shot down 14 enemy aircraft, plus three more 'probables', in more than 400 operations over enemy territory. Shot down twice, he overcame injuries and burns to escape from occupied France with the help of the 'underground'. Fighter Pilot is the story of his wartime experiences, told in simple and direct language that will engage even reluctant readers. An accompanying teacher resource contains many photocopiable tasksheets and an audio CD of the Johnny Checkett story.
