Description of this Book
Horse Safe is written by a leading expert and is endorsed by the Association for Horsemanship, Safety and Education (AHSE). The book covers safety around horses and teaches people to be more aware of what can happen and how to stay safe. It is highly practical, avoids jargon and most importantly is not discipline specific, so any horse enthusiast would find the book invaluable. It contains numerous photographs that are clear and self-explanatory. The introductory chapters deal with the horse's natural behavioural characteristics such as the flight response, herd behaviour, aggression and intelligence, body language and much more. The reader is then presented with the merits of different safety equipment and how they should be maintained. Chapters four and five cover the working environment and systems for safe horse management. Transporting horses safely is one of the most difficult aspects of handling horses, and a whole chapter is devoted to this subject. The book concludes with information on how to avoid buying a dangerous horse in the first place, and if you are unlucky, what to do with it once you have bought it.

| NZ Review |
Of all the information presented within the book, the section I wanted to rip out and put on our agistment noticeboard was the selection of your new horse. . . A list of questions that could be asked of the horse's sellers are given and I know I'll never go looking again without being armed with my list!. . . It should be compulsory reading for all of us dealing with horses on an occasional or daily basis. If after having read this book, it prevents just one accident it is most definitely time and money well spent. -- Lisa-Jane Davis (Horses and People Magazine February 2006) |
