Author's Bio

Lisa Shanahan studied Communications at Sydney University of Technology, where she majored in writing before going on to train as an actor at Theatre Nepean, at the University of Western Sydney. She then began teaching drama, and it was during this time that Lisa wrote her first play for children, and discovered that her true passion was not just writing, but writing for young people in particular. Some of her well-loved picture books (with illustrator Wayne Harris) include GORDON'S GOT A SNOOKIE, winner of the 2003 APA Best Designed Children s Picture Book, THE POSTMAN'S DOG, winner of the 2006 Speech Pathology Book of the Year for lower primary-aged children and SLEEP TIGHT, MY HONEY, published in 2008. She has collaborated with Emma Quay previously on BEAR AND CHOOK and DADDY'S HAVING A HORSE, both of which were shortlisted for the CBCA Book of the Year for Early Childhood. Her first book for teenagers, MY BIG BIRKETT, was published to much acclaim and was shortlisted for the CBCA Book of the Year for Older Readers in 2007. Lisa lives in Sydney with her husband Keiran and their three sons. Emma Quay (pronounced kway ) grew up in a village near Cambridge, England, and now lives in Sydney, Australia, with her husband and two daughters. An Honours graduate in illustration and printmaking, Emma has travelled extensively for her work. Emma has illustrated HORSE GIRL and the following picture books: CHAMPIONS, THE PUZZLE DUCK, BEAR AND CHOOK, THANK YOU FOR MY YUCKY PRESENT, REGGIE AND LU, DADDY'S HAVING A HORSE and the enormously popular GOOD NIGHT, ME, written by Andrew Daddo.
