Description of this Textbook
This collection of exercises compiled for talented high-school students encourages creativity and a deeper understanding of ideas when solving physics problems. Described as 'far beyond high school level', an allusion to a well-known phrase coined by a Hungarian poet, this book arose from the idea that teaching should not aim for the merely routine, but instead challenge pupils and stretch their ability through creativity and thorough comprehension of ideas.
Written by a well-respected and prominent figure in physics teaching, Laszlo Holics, the book is the product of fifty years of teaching experience and wisdom. Indeed, Hungarian physics teaching in general is known to be oustanding, and the fact that these countries - condemned to seclusion during the Soviet era - often found their freedom in solving physics or mathematical exercises might have been the foundation of this blossoming culture.
