Description of this Book

The Battle of the Frogs and Mice was an enormously popular and influential poem throughout much of history, from the Roman period all the way up to the nineteenth century, but during the twentieth century it was largely overlooked as a curio. This new critical edition aims to return it to the centre of scholarly attention, both by presenting a readable and usable Greek text - a task which some previous scholars claimed was impossible, based on the
corruption in the surviving manuscripts - and by mapping out the wide range of metaliterary jokes, references, and parodies concealed within the poem's apparently simple and childish story.
