Description of this Book
Exhibition Drive, Titirangi, built to coincide with the Auckland Exhibition of 1913/1914, was the connnecting road to Oratia and the West Coast 25 years before the Scenic Drive was built. The book highlights the heyday of Exhibition Drive (the pipeline) as a public road, and the influences that impacted on the road; the creation of the Waitakere dams, the concrete road to Titirangi from New Lynn, the development of Scenic Drive and the foothill suburbs and the influential pioneers of the time. It also draws on the recollections of local residents and users of the Drive, and the progression to the peaceful walking track it is today, as well as it's 100 year celebration.
