David Riley grew up in Mangere, South Auckland. He attended Mangere College and later the University of Auckland where he graduated with a Masters in Social Anthropology. He has over 20 years' experience as a high school Drama and English teacher. He's also worked as a researcher and journalist and writes books and reading resources for teachers, parents and young people. He's written three plays and 22 books, including Jammin' with Steven Adams and Samoan Heroes, which won 2016 Storylines Notable Books Awards. David lives in Manukau, South Auckland, with his wife who is also a teacher and his two daughters .
