Description of this Book

Northanger Abbey Catherine Morland Is 17, a fan of Gothic novels and in training to become a heroine. She is also one of 10 children vying for the attention of their father, a clergyman. When Catherine is invited by her rich neighbours to accompany them to Bath, England, she happily agrees to enjoy a winter of theatre, balls and social engagements. It is there she meets Isabella, who quickly becomes her new best friend, and the dashing Henry Tilney, whose parents live at Northanger Abbey with its mysterious suite of rooms that no one ever enters.

Author's Bio

English novelist Jane Austen (1775 - 1817) was known for six major novels, which comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Her writing explores the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of social standing and economic security. Her works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century. Austen published Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1815). She wrote two additional novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1818. Austen has inspired a large number of critical essays and literary anthologies. Her novels have inspired many films, from 1940's Pride and Prejudice to more recent productions: Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Love & Friendship (2016).
