Description of this Book

Based on the exhibition of postcards at the Bibliana exhibition in Bratislava in 2017, curated by the International Centre for the Picture Book in Society. A stunning, unique book of 50 images created by illustrators from 28 countries on the theme of human migration. All highlight the positive impact of the migration of peoples, and show brilliantly how cultures and ideas flow despite borders, barriers and bans. Illustrators include Shaun Tan, Neal Layton, Jackie Morris, Christopher Corr, Nicola Davies, Petr Horacek, Axel Scheffler, Jane Ray, Marie Louise Gay, Isol, Roger Mello from 28 countries across the world. The book is divided into themes of Departures, Long Journeys, Arrivals and Hope for the Future. The facsimile postcard text includes personal messages of hope from the illustrators, as well as quotes from writers including Maya Angelou, WB Yeats, John Clare, Anita Desai and Robert Macfarlane. Author's Bio

Migrations, an exhibition of the International Centre for the Picture Book in Society, was first shown at BIBIANA, Bratislava, in September 2017. The ICPBS, founded at the University of Worcester, England, by Piet Grobler and Tobias Hickey, emphasises and celebrates the power of illustration to engage with society, particularly by focusing on issues of cultural diversity and the inclusivity of minorities and socially disenfranchised people.
