Hinemoa rawa ko Tutanekai or Hinemoa and Tutanekai
is a well known true, love story. It is about two young people who wanted to live together on Mokoia Island in the middle of Lake Rotorua. Hinemoa was a princess and Tutanekai was an illegitimate child who was not considered goo...d enough for Himemoa. He was a famous flute player.
As in all good love stories Hinemoa found a way to go to her lover. She swam from her village to Mokoia Island.
They lived a long and happy life and many of the Rotorua Maori are decedents of them.
This is a bilingual book with accompanying cd. There are also waiata pertaining to the story such as Pokare kare ana.
The book is beautifully illustrated by Kay Quin Merewether and the CD is compiled by Rodger Cunningham.
Many stories have been written about Hinemoa and Tutanekai but are now out of print.Read more
