This book presents multidisciplinary perspectives on the increasing, and global problem, of youth unemployment and insecurity. It provides international explorations on the experience of youth labour across the globe. The authors offer a radical critique of neo-liberal solutions ...to `solving' the problem of youth unemployment by `tinkering' with the policy system. They aim to offer a `thicker picture' and a more encompassing understanding of the situation global youth are experiencing.

Water scarcity is not simply the result of what nature has to offer but always involves power relations and political decisions. This volume discusses the politics of the freshwater crisis, specifically how access to water is determined in different regions and historical periods..., how conflict is constructed and managed, and how identity and efforts to control water systems, through development, technologies, and institutions, shape one another. The book analyzes responses to the water crisis as efforts to mitigate water insecurity and as expressions of collective identity that legitimate, resist, or seek to transform existing inequalities. The chapters focus on different processes that contribute to freshwater scarcity, including land use decisions, pollution, privatization, damming, climate change, discrimination, water management institutions and technology. Case studies are included from North and South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and New Zealand.

This volume discusses the politics of the freshwater crisis, specifically access to water in different regions and historical periods. It demonstrates the impact of efforts to control water systems, through development, technologies, and institutions, on identities and communitie...s. Itself a paradox of fundamental and fluid characteristics, identity is constructed in part around similarities and differences. Unequal access to water contributes to the construction of collective identities, for example when marginalized people see themselves as the oppressed and excluded. These groups mobilize in support of specific responses to mitigate the difference in access. It is shown that these responses are themselves expressions of collective identity that raise questions about power relationships within the social structure. This book provides interdisciplinary perspectives on who eats what, where, when, and why. It highlights how hunger and food inse...curity are always experienced at the individual, household and local levels; and the coping mechanisms and solutions have been attempted at different geographical scales, from the local to the global.
