Large countries with burgeoning populations such as China, India, and Brazil have economies that have grown exponentially over the last few decades, and projections indicate that they will continue to do so for some time to come. This book argues that this introduction of the maj...ority of the world's population into the global economy should be considered a source of great opportunity. Auerswald links personal, social entrepreneurship narratives with global movements, in which 'the rise of the rest' are not threats to the world's stability but rather unique opportunities to discover new pathways toward progress and prosperity.

Fiji has experienced four military coups and a military mutiny since 1987, mainly as a result of tension between the majority indigenous Fijian population and an economically powerful Indian minority. Smaller minorities, including Banabans, Rotumans, Chinese, Melanesians and othe...r Pacific islanders are largely politically invisible, and socially and economically excluded. In January 2013, Fiji's government rejected a draft constitution drawn up by an independent commission, and submitted it to be re-written by the Attorney-General's office. This intervention threatens to significantly undermine the people's confidence in the process, the final document and a democratic future for Fiji. Against the backdrop of these upheavals, this report provides insight into the underlying causes and consequences of ethnic tensions in Fiji, based on evidence drawn from extensive interviews across the diversity of Fiji's ethnic groups. This report urges the government, civil society and religious and ethnic community leaders to promote understanding, tolerance and dialogue between groups. It also provides specific recommendations on tackling ethnic discrimination and exclusion.

Something extraordinary is happening in Saudi Arabia where a traditional, tribal society is rapidly implementing significant economic and social reforms. An army of foreign consultants is rewriting the social contract. The experienced though aging King Salman has cracked down har...d on corruption. His dynamic though inexperienced son, Mohammad, is promoting a more tolerant Islam. Is all this a new vision for Saudi Arabia or merely a mirage likely to dissolve into Iranian-style revolution? David Rundell, one of America's foremost experts on Saudi Arabia, explains how the country has been stable for so long and what is really happening today. The book provides new information for those interested in Middle East politics, global energy markets, or the influence of Islam in the twenty-first century. More importantly, it is a well-structured framework for thinking about one of the world's more significant, but least understood, nations.
