This book shows you how to dramatically improve your health by making small but critical changes to your diet. When you supply your body with the correct balance of minerals, vitamins and fats, you will enjoy a clearer mind, sharper memory, sound heart, efficient immune system, c...lear arteries, healthy bones, loads of energy, a worry free outlook on life and refreshing sleep. You can say goodbye to, or avoid altogether, many embarrassing and misery causing health problems. These are healed by optimum nutrition - just small but important changes to your diet. Your body is able to heal them naturally from within, or prevent them ever occurring. Often all you require are the important minerals like boron, magnesium, zinc, selenium and iodine which are lacking in soils or lost in the processing of our food. Farmers know the dramatic difference diet minerals make to the health of animals and the same principals apply to us.

This anthology addresses the mental health and therapeutic needs of Polynesian and Melanesian people and the scarcity of resources for those working with them. It is divided into four parts Identity, Therapeutic Practice, Death and Dying, Reflexive Practice that approach the conc...erns of Maori, Samoans, Tongans, and Fijians. Contributors include a wide range of writers, most of whom are Maori or Pasifika. Poems by Serie Barford, Selina Tusitala Marsh and Tracey Tawhiao introduce each section. The stresses of adolescence, identity, families, death and spirituality are all explored in innovative research that offers a wealth of inspiration and ideas to supportive family, friends, professionals, and professional educators.

Te Whanau o Waipareira Trust has produced a DVD guide to breastfeeding for Maori called Whangai U a beginners guide to breastfeeding. e Wha-nau o Waipareira Trust has produced the first DVD to be made that offers a guide to breastfeeding for Maori called Wha-ngai U- a beginners ...guide to breastfeeding. Wha-ngai U- is an easy-to-use guide to breastfeeding, made locally that features West Auckland women. It is a practical, relevant guide that is helpful and relatable for women of all ages, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. The DVD resource is free for women caregivers and families in West Auckland, and is available for purchase at a minimal cost to all other service providers throughout the country, as well as internationally. The DVD will be formally launched on Friday 2nd March. The idea for the DVD was the result of a collaborative discussion with programme co-ordinators and practitioners from the Waipareira Antenatal breastfeeding workshop service. "It's great for Ma-ori and New Zealand women in general to be able to see and hear stories they can relate to" says Melissa Hadley, co-coordinator of the Antenatal breastfeeding workshop service. The DVD resource has been made to offer an understandable and comprehensive local guide on breastfeeding, where previously there have been none. Ma-ori breastfeeding rates have fallen well below the national average, and many Ma-ori women have grown up in wha-nau where they have not been breastfed or been witness to breastfeeding. Those at Waipareira Trust behind the creation of the resource hope to encourage Ma-ori women to breastfeed and to offer support for all women who are having difficulties with breastfeeding.

In this landmark educational publication researcher Harko Brown explains the tenets of Ira Takaro Theory. Brown contends that since the mid-1800's there has been a lack of attention to ira takaro (or the schema) of Tamariki Maori in our health, sports and educational institutes.... He says this has often negatively impacted Tamariki Maori via scornful social discourses, for example, by educators critical of Maori children's in-school behaviours, and in their overall academic and health statistics. He describes the natural expressions of ira takaro in Polynesian children as pronounced and packed with powerful potential which at present is much maligned and misunderstood in general by hauora providers, particularly by those in the fields of mental health and child psychology, by sports and recreational providers and in teaching professions.

This is a book about health science for non-scientists. All over the world today people are eating foods from nutrient starved soils - and all over the world the effects of nutrient hunger are being felt. An almost unheralded 1960s horticultural change put New Zealand on the pa...th of intergenerational sickness by amplifying the effect of the missing micronutrients in our soil. Accessibly written in the style of Bill Bryson's A Short History of Everything, Just Cause and Effect examines evidence-based papers from the silos of medicine, geography, biogeography, agriculture, horticulture and more to reach the conclusion - its not rocket science after all, its Just Cause and Effect.
