              Sustainability Sciences (PDF ebook)

Edited by Leal Filho, Walter; Sima, Mihaela

The study explores the themes of innovation and sustainability in the context of universities, aiming to study the barriers to innovation and sustainability in universities. For the development of the study with specialists in the field, the quantitative method was adopted, fo...llowing the precepts of Hair et. al. (2014). A questionnaire was applied with 25 questions; it was made available online (via the Internet, from September 10 to October 15, 2017). The questionnaire was created using Forms in Google Forms and an email link was sent to invite: Rectors and Managers from the Sustainability Office of participating Green Metrics Universities; Rectors and Managers of the Sustainability Office of the Universities participating in the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AACHE); Representatives of the Universities (rector, sustainability office manager, researcher / professor) participating in the Inter-University Program for Sustainable Development Research (IUSDRP); Representatives of Universities (rector, sustainability office manager, researcher / professor) participants of Alliance Copernicus (Transformation of sustainability of science systems); Specialists (experts) with the greatest number of publications on the subject in the database Web of science; and Professors and researchers with publications impacting the literature on the subject - were selected by the software researchgate.

Deformation and Damage Mechanisms of Materials and Structures

Deformation and Damage Mechanisms of Materials and Structures (PDF ebook)

Edited by bin Tamin, Mohd Nasir; Abdullah, Shahrum

An engineering component or structure is often designed with a specified reliability. This ensures the component to perform its intended function throughout the design life. The deterministic design approach employs nominal or mean quantities when comparing the calculated stresse...s against the strength of the material, with an appropriate factor of safety. However, the continuous pursuit towards design optimization calls for improved performance with lighter structures and known reliability. In this respect, the knowledge of the response of the materials to the operating load and environment is indispensable for safe operation of the structures. The mechanical response of the material consists of two aspects, namely the mechanics of deformation and the mechanism of the failure. While the mechanics of the deformation have been considered in the classical design methods, the mechanism of the failure should also be accounted for in view of the desired optimized design.

Edited by Veloutsou, Cleopatra; Guzman, Francisco; Romani, Simona; Zarantonello, Lia; Grappi, Silvia

These articles shed some light on how consumers perceive and react to brand negativity, as well as how companies can deal with such consumer responses. They provide conceptual and operational tools that can be used to assess consumer negative responses towards brands. Key lear...nings from these articles, which are based on a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods, represent an important step forward for better understanding consumer negativity towards brands - although this topic should remain an important object of investigation for future research.

              Sport Entrepreneurship and Public Policy

Sport Entrepreneurship and Public Policy (PDF ebook)

              Edited by Ratten, Vanessa

The first article titled 'New ways of sports entrepreneurship in the university' by Pablo Galvez-Ruiz, Antonio Jesus Sanchez Oliver, Moises Grimaldi Puyana, Jesus Fernandez Gavira and Jeronimo Garcia Fernandez discusses sport policy from an education perspective. This is importan...t as education initiatives drive changes in sport policy. There has been an increase in entrepreneurship programs generally in universities due to the practical training they offer students. This article discusses how this trend is affecting sport education programs that instill an entrepreneurial mindset. The second article titled 'Entrepreneurial growth in elite team sport SMEs in Finland' by Aila Ahonen discusses sport policy through looking at high performance athletes. Much of the sport policy funding initiatives have gone towards strategically trying to enhance performance results at the upper echelons of sport. Thus, this article makes an interesting contribution to the literature by focusing on entrepreneurial initiatives are affecting elite team sports. The third article titled 'How to detect potential sport intrapreneurs? Validation of the intrapreneurial intention scale with sport science students' by Maria Huertas Gonzalez-Serrano, Ferran Calabuig Moreno, Irena Valantine and Josep Crespo Hervas focuses on measuring entrepreneurship through individual dispositions. This helps to understand how sport policy can focus on encouraging more people to take an entrepreneurial approach. The emphasis in the article is on understating the intention of sport students to be entrepreneurial. The fourth article titled 'Global brands in soccer: Identifying low-risk business opportunities' by Pedro Garcia del Barrio and Alice Paola Aguiar takes an econometric approach to measure the performance of soccer leagues. As soccer or football is the most popular sport in the world it is an important part of sport policy but less is known about how low risk opportunities are identified. Thus, the article

Sustainability Accounting and Control for Smart Cities

Sustainability Accounting and Control for Smart Cities (PDF ebook)

Edited by Schaltegger, Stefan; Crutzen, Nathalie; Adams, Carol; Bockhaven, Jonas; Giffinger, Rudolf

Smart city developments are seen as a solution to the societal, economic and environmental challenges that cities worldwide are facing and there is therefore a strong need to verify the effect that smart city projects and initiatives have in reality. The implementation of monitor...ing and control procedures offers a solution to assess the impact of smart city developments. However, this smart city research domain is in full development and this ebook has been established in order to put research on smart city performance measurement, accounting, monitoring and control in the spotlights. The scientific body of work on smart city monitoring research appears rather limited and seems to be dominated by European publications and focussed on the theoretical development of new monitoring methods while there is a lack of in-depth case-studies on smart city monitoring in reality. Overall, this research domain shows to lack in maturity. These findings are all reflected in the four accepted papers that are European and rather diverse in scope. There is a strong focus on climate change adaptation, which might be linked to the association between smart city development and the establishment of a low-carbon economy in Europe.
