Network-centric warfare, is a military doctrine or theory of war pioneered by the United States Department of Defence in the 1990s. Network society is the expression coined in 1981 related to the social, political, economic and cultural changes caused by the spread of networked, ...digital information and communications technologies. The intellectual origins of the idea can be traced back to the work of early social theorists such as Georg Simmel who analyzed the effect of modernization and industrial capitalism on complex patterns of affiliation, organization, production and experience. Network centric warfare can trace its immediate origins to 1996 when Admiral William Owens introduced the concept of a 'system of systems' in a paper of the same name published by the Institute National Security Studies. Owens described the serendipitous evolution of a system of intelligence sensors, command and control systems, and precision weapons that enabled enhanced situational awareness, rapid target assessment, and distributed weapon assignment. The publication will be a valuable aid to the study of the vital aspects of the subject. Read more

Space warfare is combat that takes place in outer space, i.e. outside the atmosphere. Technically, as a distinct classification, it refers to battles where the targets themselves are in space. Space warfare therefore includes ground-to-space warfare, such as attacking satellites ...from the Earth, as well as space-to-space warfare, such as satellites attacking satellites. In 2020 military satellites and, to a lesser degree, commercial satellites that perform functions critical to civilians, governments and militaries are now increasingly capable of performing active and passive defence, offensive interdiction and rendezvous operations, and covert and overt attacks, while simultaneously carrying out their primary missions. Space systems consist of three elements: a space element, a terrestrial element, and a link element. The space element consists of the platform in which astrodynamics is the primary principle governing its movement through its environment. This book provides deep insight into various dimensions of issues relating to the subject. Read more

The Problems of Philosophy is a 1912 book by Bertrand Russell, in which Russell attempts to create a brief and accessible guide to the problems of philosophy. Focusing on problems he believes will provoke positive and constructive discussion, Russell concentrates on knowledge rat...her than metaphysics: If it is uncertain that external objects exist, how can we then have knowledge of them but by probability. There is no reason to doubt the existence of external objects simply because of sense data. Read more
