On May 2, 1967, twenty-four black men and six white women dressed in blue shirts, black berets, and black leather jackets ascended the steps of the capital building in Sacramento, California. Across the street, the journalists covering Governor Ronald Reagans speech to 200 eighth... graders were quickly distracted. Armed with loaded rifles and marching in military formation, the newly formed Black Panther Party for Self-Defence had come to protect what was their legal right. Under an obscure California law, it was legal to carry non-concealed, loaded weapons. With microphones in his face and photographers clambering, Party Chairman Bobby Seale began reading the Panthers first message to the American people: Black people have begged, prayed, petitioned, demonstrated and everything else to get the racist power structure of America to right the wrongs which have historically been perpetrated against black people. All these efforts had been answered by more repression, deceit and hypocrisy. . . The Black Panther Party for Self-Defence believes that the time has come for black people to arm themselves before it is too late. Overnight, the images were carried around the world. With one swift and bold action, the Black Panther Party had put itself on the map. Reviled, adored, misunderstood, and mythologized, more than 40 years later, the Black Panther Party retains a powerful hold on popular imagination worldwide. Yet, astonishingly, it has never been the subject of a dramatic, scholarly, and unbiased documentary film. The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution fills that void. This fast-moving film on what may be the most controversial group in American history is balanced through stories told from multiple perspectivespolice, FBI agents and infiltrators, journalists, white supporters and detractors, Panther leaders who remained loyal to the party, and those who came to renounce it. Produced by MacArthur Fellow and multiple prime-time Emmy and Sundance award-winning film

We all know about the late Queen Mum one of Britains most instantly recognisable figures. But few have even heard of the Queens mother-in-law, Princess Alice. And yet, the life story of Prince Philips mother almost defies belief. A great granddaughter of Queen Victoria, Prince Ph...ilips mother married into the Greek royal family only to see the Greek monarchy overthrown by revolution. Fleeing into exile, she suffered a severe nervous breakdown. She was locked away in mental hospitals and subjected to experimental treatments by psychiatrists including Sigmund Freud himself. The trauma had a shattering effect on Princess Alices marriage and led to a fractured childhood for her only son Prince Philip. Philips mother eventually fought her way back from mental illness, and became an unlikely hero of World War Two risking her life to hide a Jewish family from the Nazis. When her son married the future Queen Elizabeth in 1948, Alice turned down the option of a cosy royal life. Instead she chose to dedicate herself to working with the poor in Greece, gave away all her possessions and even founded her own religious order. Featuring exclusive interviews with family members and previously unseen archive footage, this film sheds new light on one of the royal familys most remarkable but little known personalities.

LOUIS THEROUX: MY SCIENTOLOGY MOVIE is Louis Theroux's first feature documentary, created in collaboration with director John Dower and double Academy Award winning producer Simon Chinn. Following a long fascination with the religion, and with a lot of experience dealing with ecc...entric human behaviour, incomparable British broadcaster Louis Theroux wont take no for an answer when his request to enter the Church of Scientologys Los Angeles headquarters is turned down. Therouxs insatiable curiosity motivates him to understand what life inside the Church is really like, and with the aid of former second-in-command at the Church, Mark Marty Rathbun, he uses actors to replay incidents people claim they experienced with high profile members such as Tom Cruise and leader David Miscavige. Suffused with a good dose of humour and moments worthy of a Hollywood script, LOUIS THEROUX: MY SCIENTOLOGY MOVIE proves that what people do in the name of religion can be truly stranger than fiction.

Putuparri and the Rainmakers is a universal story about the sacred relationship between people and place. It takes audiences on a rare and emotional journey to meet the traditional rainmakers of Australia's Great Sandy Desert who have fought a twenty-year battle to win back their... traditional homeland. The film spans ten transformative years in the life of Tom 'Putuparri' Lawford as he navigates the deep chasm between his Western upbringing and his growing determination to fight for his family's homeland. A trip back to his grandparents country in the desert begins the process of cultural awakening. Putuparri is shocked to learn that the dreamtime myths are not just stories, that there is a country called Kurtal and a snake spirit that is the subject of an elaborate rainmaking ritual. Putuparri is a man caught between two worlds: the deeply spiritual universe of his people's traditional culture and his life in modern society where he struggles with alcoholism and domestic violence. As he reconnects with his ancestral lands and learns about his traditional culture he begins to accept his future as a leader of his people and shoulders his responsibility to pass this knowledge on to the next generation. Set against the backdrop of their long fight to reclaim their traditional lands, Putuparri and the Rainmakers is an emotional, visually breathtaking story of love, hope and the survival of Aboriginal law and culture against all odds.

Along the way he meets some of the extraordinary people who call the rainforest home - people who make up a floating river community and those who live in a traditional tribal village - and discovers what a massive role the plants of the Amazon play in modern medicine and how deforestation is pushing many animals he is seeking, to the brink of extinction.
