This is the story of New Zealand's most racist town. From 1952 to 1964, Pukekohe housed the only segregated Maori school in the history of the country. Tragically, hundreds of Maori infants and children died as a result of their segregation in slums where they were forced to live... on the edge of town. No Maori Allowed looks at what happened at Pukekohe and the extent of racial intolerance across the country. Using records from the National Archives and firsthand interviews, chapters cover the extent of racial intolerance across the country in housing and employment during the segregation period from 1925 to the early 1960s. Did you know that on 'K Road' in Auckland, shops had signs reading 'No Credit for Maori,' in Hamilton stores refused to let them try on pants, hospitals had segregated maternity wards and gave them less expensive cutlery, while many stores and major banks had official policies of not hiring 'coloureds'. When a New Zealand University Press insisted that I modify the text as it was too pro- Maori, I decided to publish it myself, because the true history of Maori cannot be censored.

As you climbed the rickety stairs of an old woolshed at Sydney harbour in 1944, the sound of beeping would become almost deafening. Rows of men and women in uniforms and headsets would be tapping away vigorously at small machines, under the careful watch of their young female tra...iners. Presiding over the cacophony was a tiny woman, known to everyone as 'Mrs Mac', one of Australia's wartime legends. Violet McKenzie was the first Australian woman to study electrical engineering, and she was a pioneer in the early days of radio. As the clouds of war gathered in the 1930s, she defied conventions and trained young women in Morse code, foreseeing that their services would soon be sorely needed. Always a champion of women, she even persuaded the navy to set up a new defence force for women, the WRANS. Mrs Mac was adored by the thousands of young women and men she trained, and she came to be respected by the defence forces and the public too for her vision and contribution to the war effort. David Dufty brings her inspiring story back to life for readers today. '[An] incredible and inspiring life... Duffy's new biography captures her unwavering dedication in the face of adversity.' - Professor Genevieve Bell, Australian National University 'A cracking story about the famous Australian radio engineer you've never heard of.' - Dick Smith, entrepreneur and philanthropist

Everything we do either gets us closer to or further away from becoming the husbands our wives deserve, the fathers our kids need, and, ultimately, the men God intends us to be. 'End Average' is a reality check for men identifying as Christians. Ryan Hansen dives into what it tak...es to achieve permanent heart change that leads to balanced and consistent growth in faith, relationships, health, and finances. Through examples from his own hard-learned lessons and from wisdom found in the Bible, you'll see what faith in action looks like between Sunday sermons. 'End Average' will challenge you to start living with intentionality and purpose as you seek to glorify God in everything you do.

The facts may be quirky but they are all carefully researched. The stories show humanity at its best and its worst, at its funniest and most tragic. The anecdotes are linked by quotations that provoke thinking about universal truths.
