The life of wanderer, long-distance tramper and legendary hut-bagger Paul Kilgour Paul Kilgour has had a life-long obsession with New Zealand's back-country huts. He's 'bagged' a record 1159 of them in total, and he's still going. He grew up in rural Northland. It was a different... time. His father would watch on proudly as the boys jumped from tree-top to tree-top in the old macrocarpas, 30 metres off the ground. Paul began going on epic trips as a young boy, beyond the farm and along the coast. During these wanderings he would meet elderly folk living in tiny huts out the back of farms, on cliff tops, in remote and beautiful locations. All along the coastline were inconspicuous places with even more inconspicuous huts. There were also many small baches, always unlocked. Paul would use them as a place to bunk for the night, leaving a note to say 'thank you', as was the custom of the day. Even at school, Paul would drift beyond the school yard, up valleys, over hills ('mountains in his my imagination'), along ridges, though farm paddocks, across streams and creeks, over sand-dunes and along miles of wild and rugged west coast beaches. Deep inside him stirred the spirit of adventure, the desire to go further. All Who Wander is a book about one man's lifetime spent with a pack on his back, off the beaten path, and finding shelter in the wilderness.

When I set off in my brand-new uniform, I imagined everyone thinking: "There goes Tilly Thomas with her smart-girl scholarship." Or maybe: "There goes Tilly Thomas with her poor-person's scholarship because her family can't afford the fees, and she has holes in her shoes." Or: "T...here goes Tilly Thomas, she's not as smart as she thinks she is." Tilly Thomas dreams of doing something remarkable. Her big sister, Beaty, became the town's first telegram girl during the grim years of World War One, and now Tilly wants to make her mark too. January 1920 heralds the start of a new decade, promising fresh opportunities for girls like Tilly. But her dreams seem impossible to reach, outweighed by all the things that girls can't or aren't supposed to do. The war is over, but its shadow still darkens the town. Returned servicemen struggle to fit back into their old lives. Some have shell shock while others are crippled or blinded. Tilly must work out what it means to grow up in a world shattered by war and a pandemic, in a society where opportunities for women are still hard-won. And, like any fourteen year-old, she faces uncertainty and confusion about what sort of person she wants to be, how to get there, and how to believe in herself.

The inspiration story of the Cardrona Distillery 'Ever since I was really little, I have dreamed big dreams. It's nice to imagine what could be, and leave it at that. But I've never been that sort of dreamer. I've always wanted to take one of my dreams-find just the right one-and... turn it into something real.' Southern Spirit is the story of how former dairy farmer Desiree Whittaker and her husband Ash took a risk to realise a dream of setting up a world-class distillery. Their quest to produce a single malt whisky that would compete with the best whiskeys in the world is classic story of Kiwi persistence, sacrifice and self-made success. It's also a modern-day tale of living off the land in the high-country. Southern Spirit is an inspirational business story that will appeal to anyone who everyone loves a bold, brave and brilliant entrepreneur.
